The Malya College of Sports Development (MCSD) is a public institution under the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports (MICAS), mandated to provide education, training, and research in physical education, sports management, and allied disciplines. Established in 1979 as Malya National Sports Institute, the College has served as Tanzania’s oldest and most influential training hub for sports professionals, producing thousands of coaches, referees, and sports officers serving in schools, communities, and national institutions. Over the decades, MCSD has evolved from a national training center into a comprehensive sports-education institution aligned with the country’s development priorities. The College is registered with National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) through registration number PWF/019. The governance of MCSD operates through an institutional framework approved by NACTVET. The College is guided by the MICAS Ministerial Advisory Board and ensuring policy compliance, strategic oversight, and stakeholder participation. Administrative and academic functions are implemented under the Principal’s Office through academic, administrative, and financial departments, supported by cross-cutting units on quality assurance, ICT, research, and student welfare. The governance model promotes transparency, accountability, and participatory decision-making, in line with public service regulations and NACTVET standards.
